Update on historic collaboration between SBMA Ltd, KASKTAS Piling & Drilling Contractors Co. Inc and Keller Grundbau Ges.m.b.H.
Initial works on the extensive Investigation Test programme for the ground anchors designed to stabilize slopes at the STAR Oil Refinery are now underway. Dr Mothersille visited the site where teams from specialist anchor contractors Kasktas and Keller are mobilizing for the works and undertaking drilling operations and Investigation Test tendon fabrication.
In addition to advising on various technical issues Dr Mothersille delivered a technical presentation to representatives from the STAR Oil Refinery (owner/client), TSGI (main contractor), Yenigun (sub-contractor), Kasktas and Keller. He also visited the sites of recent localised slope failures and is instrumental in establishing a forward strategy for the development of the ground anchor works.

Dr Devon Mothersille collaborates with Geotechnical Engineering Group to deliver a series of specialist marketing lectures to design consultants and contractors in Adelaide and Melbourne. In addition, successful and significant meetings were completed which addressed forthcoming innovative technologies currently being developed by both SBMA Ltd and Geotech Group. This visit heralds an exciting era for both companies which promises to create benefits for the ground anchor industry worldwide.

Technical authors; Dr Devon Mothersille, Dr Rasin Duzceer, Mr Alp Gorkalp and Mr Bora Okumusoglu have drafted a technical paper which was successful in satisfying the review panel for the prestigious Geotechnical Engineering Journal. The paper entitled ‘Support of 25m deep excavation using ground anchors in Russia’ will be published in the journal early next year.
Extensive infrastructure development is underway in Doha, Qatar in preparation for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup tournament in 2022. An essential part of this development is the construction of the Msheireb Metro Station for which SBMA technology is being used to support diaphragm walls which form the perimeter of the deep excavations.
